I wasn’t able to go around Cebu so much during my short stay there since most of the time were spent visiting relatives, many of whom I’ve met for the first time. So I haven’t seen a lot of Cebu, but the parts that I did see I found beautiful.
These were taken at Lapu-lapu Shrine:

“If a picture paints a thousand words…” then these are what I wish to express regarding my very first visit to my late grandmother’s hometown in Lapu-lapu City, Cebu.

My father has been dead for 22 year now.
I recently visited the grave he shares with his Dad, who passed away much later than him. (A father burying his own son - I think is still something that shouldn’t happen to any parent.)
Perhaps this is too gloomy for a summer day post, but there’s a story. After I placed a pot of flowers on their gravestone, I sat under the marble gazebo (I don’t know what else to call it) to rest and get away from the hot sun. The air was warm but the blowing wind gave some relief. It was an odd day to visit the place actually, a hot mid afternoon and the park was silent and still. It was, after all, a cemetery.
I was all alone in a vast plain of grass and dead people - and I actually loved it.

Well it would have been that if it weren’t for a very old man who was there before me, who sat under the shade and then decided to head to a grave some 10 meters away, and lie down on the grass.

As a woman, I believe we need to make a journey to our inner self. Our role in the scheme of things depends on how well we know oursleves, and how much we love ourselves.
So, this summer, as we go hunting for summer destinations, why don’t we bring a book, an object, or even a person that can help us make that step closer to who we really are.

As the wind of peace blew my stormy clouds away,
I could see a hint of sunshine peering over the trees,
It swept through the bluest sea and brought happiness to me.

That is outside Magellan’s Cross. My co-worker and I decided to go around Cebu during the weeks we were there. Not that we got around the city a lot. We tried but we didn’t get to do all the touristy things. After all, we were there for work.

Bohol — the land where you will find Chocolate Hills and tarsiers. A known tourist spot, I never thought I’d go there sooner. My co-worker and I got the chance last month when we took a break from our work in Cebu. What you’re seeing in the picture is the pier at around 8am last February 16. The ferry ride was a little over 2 hours from Cebu City to Tagbilaran. Upon arriving on the pier, you will notice how clear the water is. It was truly amazing, especially for someone who has lived in Manila all her life.

Everybody goes to church for different reasons. Some people to pray for their loved ones or themselves, some people pray to win the lottery (at the time, the jackpot was really high, like more than 100M?), and some people pretend to pray to God without trying to know who he is.
Everybody wants to say a prayer. Whether it’s heartfelt or not, we utter the words in an attempt to get us closer to heaven or closer to God or closer to whatever our hearts wish for. And it’s during the time that we pray that we are broken and we open up our hearts and show how weak we really are.

I have not watched the sun set for a long time now. I think this is the first after more than 10 years! That’s what you get when you live in the middle of the jungle really.
Last summer, when the family went out to the beach, I finally got to watch, AND take photos as the sun was going down, down, and down.
It’s not as magical as Manila sunset, but the feeling I get when the sun sets is the same—grateful that the day is over and hopeful that the sun will soon rise tomorrow to bring a brand new day.
